Summary: Shortly before an important examination at a university, someone takes a look at the test paper. There are three suspects.

While staying in a university town, Holmes is visited by a tutor, Hilton Soames, who is due to act as examiner in a Greek exam. While his door was unlocked, someone had entered his room and copied some of the exam question. Three students live above his rooms and Soames suspects one of them.

Holmes worked out the guilty student who had been aided by Soames' servant who knew him as a child.
