Summary: In a room, two men are found driven out of their minds while their sister is found dead beside them.

During a holiday in Cornwall to recuperate, Holmes is asked to investigate a strange case. A man leaves his two brothers and sister playing cards but, in the morning, the men are found insane and the woman dead. There is no clue to how this happened.

The deaths and madness were due to a poisonous plant which had been placed in the fire for the purpose of revenge.
