Summary: Shortly before a major horse race, the favourite goes missing and its trainer is found dead. Suspicion falls on a man who tried to bribe a stable boy.
Introduction

Silver Blaze, the favourite for the Wessex Cup, goes missing shortly before the race. At the same time, his trainer, John Straker, is found dead. Suspicions fall on a man who had tried to bribe one of the stable boys the evening before.

Holmes and Watson travel to Dartmoor to investigate. The mysteries are where the horse is now and who killed the trainer.

Explanation (spoiler alert)

It was the trainer who tried to make Silver Blaze lame. The frightened horse had kicked out and accidentally killed the trainer. The horse had then been found wandering on the moor by someone from a neighbouring, rival stables. He had covered up the distinctive marks on the horse and kept it in his own stables.
