Introduction

A poor doctor, Percy Trevelyan, is expectantly set up in practice by a man called Blessington who remains in the building as a resident patient. Some years later, he is visited by a Russian pair who take the opportunity to sneak into Blessington's room. He is terrified by the event so Trevelyan consults Holmes.

Blessington was actually Sutton, a member of a criminal gang. He had betrayed his companions and, when they were released from prison, they came looking for him, disguised as Russians.
