Summary: The owner of Baskerville Hall dies of fright and people believe he was killed by a ghostly hound. Watson accompanies the new owner to the house to protect him.
Introduction

Charles Baskerville, the owner of Baskerville Hall on Dartmoor, dies of heart failure while, it is believed, being pursued by a legendary ghostly hound. When the new owner, Henry Baskerville, arrives to take over, his doctor friend fears for his life and engages Holmes. Holmes sends Watson down to Devon with Baskerville to investigate the death and legend, and protect him.

Explanation (spoiler alert)

The ghostly hound was a real dog with phosphorous painted on its face. It belonged to Stapleton, actually a relation of Baskerville's who killed Charles and then planned to kill Henry so that he could inherit Baskerville Hall.
