Summary: A woman falls in love with a notorious criminal. Holmes is asked to convince her to leave him.

A rich woman, Violet de Merville, is seduced by a notorious criminal, Baron Gruber. Her friends and family try to get her to break off their engagement but he has told her of his past misdemeanours so she can't be persuaded to leave. A close friend asks Holmes to find some way to convince her.

Actual crime
Explanation (spoiler alert)

Holmes steals the Baron's diary which held details of all his love "conquests". This convinces de Merville to leave him.
