A commissionaire comes across a scuffle in the street and finds that one of the people has dropped a goose. Because it would go off, he decides to cook it and finds a famous stolen jewel in its crop. He takes it to Holmes.
Holmes advertises and finds that the man who dropped the goose had no idea of what was inside.

The man who stole the jewel was a nervous character and, frightened of being caught, forced the jewel into the stomach of a goose that was being kept for him for Christmas. Unfortunately he chose the wrong one and it ended up with another person.
